Gateway to Tomorrow: Xinjiang Unites China and Central Asia in Serial Scientific and Humanity Activities

Urumqi, Aug 20—China opened a five-day scientific and humanity exchange program with Central Asia on Wednesday, aiming to deepen research ties along its modern Silk Road and celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

 

The 2025 China–Central Asia scientific and humanity exchange program, sponsored by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), brought together about 200 officials, scientists, engineers, educators and students from China and the Central Asian states.

 

Xinjiang is once again a gateway, Chen Mingguo, Deputy Party Chief of the region, told delegates at the launch ceremony, we will turn geographic proximity into collaborative innovation.

 

Speakers included Luo Hui, CAST’s head of international affairs; Wang Chunfa, President of the China Science Writers Association (CSWA); and Umarkhon Madvaliev, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan (NAST).

 

Dr. Lazzat Kusainova, President of the International Center of Scientific Cooperation (ICSC) of Kazakhstan, and Wang Yingchun, Chief Engineer at China Mobile Group Design Institute, delivered keynote speeches respectively.

 

Three Memorandums of Understanding were signed at the event. The CSWA sealed cooperation pacts with the ICSC and Kyrgyz State Technical University to expand joint science-communication programs.

 

The Chinese Society of Engineers (CSE) and the Central Asian Association for Accreditation of Education (CAAAE) agreed to share China’s engineering resources and sustainability training with Central Asian peers.

 

The serial activities program comprises 4 parallel tracks: a public-science-literacy forum, a young engineers’ workshop, a young scientists’ dialogue and the 9th Belt and Road Teenager Maker Camp & Teacher Workshop.

 

The CAST described the events as a “concrete step” to implement the “China–Central Asia Spirit” outlined by President Xi Jinping, adding that further joint research calls and talent exchanges will follow.
