He Junke meets with ISC President Peter Gluckman
He Junke, Executive Secretary of the leading Party members group, Executive President and Chief Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), met with Peter Gluckman, President of the International Science Council (ISC), in Beijing on May 29, 2025.
During the meeting, the two sides engaged in an in-depth exchange of views on advancing openness, trust, and collaboration within the international scientific community.
He Junke emphasized that emerging technologies and global challenges are placing new demands on the scientific community. The CAST opposes any obstacles to international scientific cooperation and will continue to support Chinese scientists in participating in international exchanges.
He also expressed the CAST’s active support for the ISC’s initiatives.
Peter Gluckman shared his perspective that the global center of scientific development is undergoing a shift from the West to the East and from the North to the South, highlighting China’s potential to become a leading power in global sci-tech innovation.
He stated that the ISC will focus on reshaping the global scientific agenda, enhancing public trust in science, and promoting the role of science in achieving global sustainable development.
The discussion also covered the theme of the ISC’s 2026 mid-term meeting and strategies for cultivating young scientific talent.
Also present at the meeting were ISC Vice President Zhu Yongguan, former IUGS President Cheng Qiuming, Jia Gensuo of the ISC Regional Committee for Asia-Pacific, and representatives from relevant departments and institutions of the CAST.
The ISC, formed in 2018 through the merger of the International Council for Science and the International Social Science Council, is a non-governmental international organization headquartered in Paris. The CAST serves as one of its member organizations.
