The 9th Belt and Road Teenager Maker Camp & Teacher Workshop Program Initiated in Chengdu
The 2nd Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange (BRST) released the Chengdu declaration on building a joint Belt and Road innovation community on June 11, 2025.
The Belt and Road youth science and technology innovation partner program was incorporated into the declaration.
Jointly sponsored by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), and the Sichuan Provincial People’s Government, the 9th Belt and Road Teenager Maker Camp & Teacher Workshop Program was initiated in the afternoon.
Around 300 people from 4 international and regional organizations and nearly 30 countries and regions gathered to have discussions under the theme of "Engineering Builds a Better Future".
Feng Shenhong, Deputy Secretary of the leading Party members group, Pan Xiaodong, Executive Secretary of the leading Party members group and Secretary General of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), and Lin Shucheng, Vice Chairman of the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches respectively.
Keynote speakers included Luo Delong, Deputy Director-General of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) Organization, Mahouton Norbert Hounkonnou, President of the Network of African Science Academies (NASAC), and Cao Zhen, Chief Scientist of the Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO).
Wu Xiangping, President of the Belt and Road International Science Education Coordinating Committee (BRISECC), and Solheim, recipient of the Chinese Government Friendship Award, also attended the opening ceremony.
As a featured event of the conference, this Maker Camp adopts a "1 main camp + 5 regional sub-camps + 1 online platform" model.
It aims to implement the Belt and Road youth imagination education program and provide high-quality science and humanities exchanges for teachers and students from Belt and Road countries.
The main event is the Belt and Road youth science and technology innovation partner program Sichuan tour, which will take place from June 10 to 15 in Chengdu and comprises maker learning and research activities. Meanwhile, sub-camps will be held in Shaanxi, Ningxia, Xinjiang, Guangxi, and Yunnan from July to December.
