Green Development Concept Drives Sustainable Future: Seminar in Huzhou
HUZHOU, August 13—A seminar themed on the concept of "Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets" and its role in driving sustainable development was held in Huzhou, Zhejiang Province.
The event was organized by the United Nations consultative office of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and attended by over 50 experts and scholars from various consultative committees.
Chen Jun, Chair of the CAST UN Consultative Committee on land use planning and geographic information, Gong Ke, Chair of the CAST UN Consultative Committee on Information Technology (CCIT), Guo Huadong, Chair of the CAST UN Consultative Committee on Disaster Reduction, and Jiao Nianzhi, Chair of the CAST UN Consultative Committee on sustainable development of marine ecology, among other experts, discussed the concept from the perspectives of green transformation and upgrading, marine ecological governance, and the application of earth big data.
They highlighted the scientific value and significant contributions of the concept, as well as its practical implementation in Huzhou and around the world. The experts emphasized the need for the international scientific community to share the latest practices in technological innovation through the UN platform and to strengthen international cooperation to help implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Luo Hui, Executive Secretary and Director General of the Department of International Affairs of CAST, and Erik Solheim, former UN Under-Secretary-General and recipient of the 2023 Chinese Government Friendship Award, also attended the event.
Since the CAST obtained special consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council in 2004, it has continuously promoted the active participation of China's scientific community in the UN agenda and in global science governance.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the "Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets" concept.
The seminar aimed to further disseminate President Xi Jinping's thought on ecological civilization, deepen international cooperation in this field, promote a modernization of harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature, and actively practice the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind.
At the seminar, the CAST UN Consultative Committees on land use planning and geospatial information and on sustainable development of marine ecology were officially inaugurated.
