2025-07-01

Dr. Yuen Pak Leung, former President of The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), was elected Chair of the International Engineering Alliance (IEA)'s International Engineering Technologists Agreement (IETA) at the 2025 International Engineering Alliance Meeting (IEAM 2025) in Mérida, Mexico, serving for two years.

Concurrently, he was re-elected Chair of the Seoul Accord during its 2025 general meeting. These elections will enable Yuen to play a more significant role in the international engineering community on behalf of China.

The IETA, one of the IEA's four engineering capability agreements, focuses on technologists’ competency mutual recognition and has seven full signatories: the engineering bodies of Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, the UK, Australia, Canada, and Hong Kong.

The Seoul Accord addresses computing and IT-related educational accreditation and has 13 full signatories, including engineering organizations from Australia, Republic of Korea, the US, the UK, Canada, Ireland, Indonesia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.

Yuen, a medical engineering specialist, has been HKIE President. He took the position as IETA Vice Chair since 2021 and Seoul Accord Chair since 2023.
