Top 10 Global Engineering Achievements of 2025 Unveiled in Shanghai

The world’s most groundbreaking engineering innovations of the past five years were revealed Monday in Shanghai, highlighting advances from antibody-drug conjugates to full-ocean-depth submersibles.

 

The announcement came during the opening of the 2025 General Assembly of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) and the Global Engineering Congress, which drew representatives from over 60 countries and regions.

 

Compiled by the Chinese Academy of Engineering’s journal “Engineering,” the “Top 10 Global Engineering Achievements of 2025” recognize projects and technologies that have been completed, validated, and had a global impact.

 

The list includes:

• Antibody-drug conjugates

• Blackwell GPU architecture

• DeepSeek open-source large language model

• Full-ocean-depth manned submersible

• High-performance carbon fiber composites

• Humanoid robots

NASA’s Perseverance Mars rover

• Euclid space telescope

• South-to-North Water Diversion Middle Route Project

• Barrier-encircling project in the Taklamakan Desert, Xinjiang

 

The event, themed “Engineering Shapes a Green Future,” also featured the release of the Shanghai Declaration, calling for global engineering efforts to advance sustainability. Workshops on engineering capabilities will continue through Friday, offering practical insights into innovation and technology leadership.

 

It was jointly hosted by the WFEO, the China Association for Science and Technology, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government.
