China-Brazil Engineer Training on Smart Grids Wraps Up in Jinan

2025-11-18

Jinan, Nov 14—Forty-plus power-sector engineers from China, Brazil, Malaysia and Indonesia wrapped up a five-day “smart grids for sustainable development” training camp on Friday, the first since the Chinese Society of Engineers (CSE) and the Brazilian Federation of Engineering Associations (Federação Brasileira de Associações de Engenheiros, FEBRAE) agreed in June to build a joint centre for engineering excellence.

Held in the eastern city of Jinan, the Nov 10-14 program paired Chinese specialists with Brazilian counterparts to swap notes on turning grids digital and green.

Delegates toured a vehicle-to-grid charging hub in Jinan’s new low-carbon district and a factory that builds ultra-high-voltage gear, then broke into teams to sketch fixes for hooking up erratic renewables and keeping the lights on.

State Grid’s Brazilian branch, which co-runs the new Rio training centre with the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), said the event would feed into pilot projects back home. China is already Brazil’s largest trading partner; power links are the latest strand.

The event was sponsored by the CSE, and organized by the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering.
