WRC 2025: Wan Gang Highlights China's Role in Global Robot Industry
BEIJING, August 13—The 2025 World Robot Conference (2025 WRC) kicked off in Beijing on Friday. Wan Gang, President of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), was among the attendees.
Wan Gang stressed in his speech that China has remained committed to the strategic goal of “empowering the real economy and supporting social development” in robot science and technology innovation. China has seen continuous improvement in its innovation capacity and industrial strength in this field. It has been the world’s largest robot market for several years in a row and has become a key player in the global robot industry ecosystem.
He called for efforts to strengthen basic research and build collaborative innovation platforms to integrate scientific and industrial innovation. He also urged the cultivation of a technology application ecosystem to promote the iteration of technologies and the development of infrastructure such as computing power networks and industry datasets.
The WRC is jointly sponsored by the Chinese Institute of Electronics (CIE) and the World Robot Cooperation Organization (WRCO). With the theme of "Making Robots Smarter, Embodied Agents More Intelligent", it features an opening ceremony, a main forum, and supporting activities.
Concurrently, a robot exposition and a robot competition are held, attracting over 200 domestic and international robot-related enterprises and more than 100 new product launches. Over 10,000 elite contestants from more than 6,000 teams in nearly 20 countries around the world compete on the same stage.
Also present at the event were Yin Li, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee, Li Lecheng, Vice Minister of Industry and Information Technology, Yin Yong, Deputy Secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee and Mayor, and Luo Hui, member of the leading Party members group and Director General of the Department of International Affairs.
