Forum Held in Chengdu: Boosting International Cooperation and Engineers Exchange
The Belt and Roads Forum on Engineering Capacity Building was held in Chengdu on June 11, 2025.
As part of the 2nd Belt and Roads Conference on Science and Technology Exchange, the Belt and Roads Forum on Engineering Capacity Building is held in Chengdu on June 11, 2025.
Wan Gang, President of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), Lin Xin, vice minister of science and technology, Yu Lijun, deputy Party Secretary of Sichuan Province, Seng Chuan TAN, incoming President of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), and Aung Kyaw Myat, President of the Myanmar Engineering Council (MEngC), addressed the opening ceremony.
The event was presided over by Chai Liyuan, President of Tianjin University and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE).
In his speech, Wan Gang noted that the CAST and the Chinese Society of Engineers (CSE) have been committed to deepening international engineering cooperation and promoting engineer exchanges under the Belt and Roads Initiative.
He expressed his expectations that the participating nations join hands to boost engineering technology innovation and commercialization in the region, so as to inject new impetus into local socio-economic development.
He stressed the need to enhance engineering capacity building and educational reform, facilitate access to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) resources for engineers, and establish mutual accreditation standards for engineers to ensure the initiative's steady progress.
He called upon to optimize engineering governance by accelerating the establishment of the International Federation of Engineering Societies for the Belt and Road (IFES).
He also highlighted the importance of increasing public goods supply, building an engineering accreditation system, and upholding engineering ethics to support economic growth, trade, cultural exchange, and sustainable development.
The opening ceremony witnessed the launch of the Consensus on Engineering Capacity Building for the Belt and Roads, which will facilitate the establishment of the IFES.
During the forum, the CSE and the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) signed a mutual accreditation agreement.
Under the agreement, the two sides will recognize each other's engineer competency evaluation standards, assessment procedures, and quality assurance systems.
Professional members of the CSE can obtain Pakistani registered professional engineer qualifications through a simplified process.
This will accelerate Chinese engineers' overseas development and provide high-level engineering talent support for the high-quality advancement of the Belt and Roads Initiative.
As part of the 2nd Belt and Roads Conference on Science and Technology Exchange, the forum was organized by the CAST and jointly organized by the CSE, Tianjin University, the Sichuan Provincial Department of Science and Technology, and the Sichuan Association for Science and Technology (SAST).
Over 160 representatives from 6 international organizations, 26 national engineering organizations, relevant national academic societies, universities, and enterprises attended.
