BEIJING, July 7—"How can I balance scientific research and science popularization practice?", during the parallel forum of the 27th Annual Meeting of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) titled "CAST President Meets with Young Scientific Talents" at the National Communication Center for Science and Technology (NCCST), Li Xiyang, an undergraduate student from Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT), posed the question to CAST President Wan Gang.
Wan replied, "Scientific innovation and science popularization are the twin pillars of a sci-tech professional's academic growth. Engaging in science popularization involves sharing the knowledge you have learned with others, a process that also deepens your own understanding of the subject. The two are mutually reinforcing each other."
Wan encouraged the young participants to regard science popularization as a joyful activity, to deepen their understanding of scientific research and improve research efficiency through acquiring, mastering, and disseminating knowledge.
On the same day, Wan Gang had a face-to-face exchange with 200 plus representatives of young scientific talents from Tsinghua University, Beihang University, Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing Jiaotong University, Beijing University of Technology, Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT), The Chinese Association of Young Scientists and Technologists, and the Foundation for the Development of Science and Technology in China.
They discussed the lessons learned from the development of China's New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), how to make entrepreneurial choices, the future development tend of artificial intelligence, how to persevere in the often thankless pursuit of scientific research, and how young people in the new era can inherit the Spirit of Scientists.
Drawing on his own experiences, Wan provided careful guidance and warm encouragement to the young scientific talents.
