BEIJING, July 22 — A new international body dedicated to accelerating the global shift to electric mobility was officially launched in Beijing on Tuesday, bringing together carmakers, energy groups and research institutes from China, the United States, Germany and Britain.

The World New Energy Vehicle Development Organization (WNEVDO) — registered in China as an international sci-tech organization — was founded by the China Society of Automotive Engineers, Chongqing Changan Automobile and the FISITA world automotive engineers’ federation, according to a statement released after the inaugural ceremony.

Wan Gang, President of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST), told the event via video link that the body should anchor itself in a global perspective and fuse industrial transformation with sustainable development. He urged it to use multilateral mechanisms to align national policies and technical standards while serving both industry and regulators.

Changan Automobile Chair of the Board Zhu Huarong was elected President of the organization, whose founding members also include vehicle manufacturers, component suppliers, battery suppliers, consultancies, universities and other international bodies.
